An Appeal to our Muslim Brothers and Sisters:
Our jamaat needs your urgent help, support, and financial aid. The Quran states in Surah AI-Baqarah: "Who is he that will loan to Allah a beautiful loan, which Allah will double unto his credit, and multiply many times? It is Allah that gives you want or plenty, and to Him shall be your return." (2:245) The Muslim Community Organization (MCO) of Des Moines has been registered by the State of Iowa, and has provided a place of worship since 1983. Apartments and rented homes were used until twelve years ago when the MCO purchased a house (picture included). During these twelve years, the jamaat has continued to grow. In turn the City of Des Moines has informed us that our current building is unsafe for us to operate with the size of our current jamaat and we must evacuate immediately.
In recent years, refugees from many different countries have joined our existing families in our growing community. We also attract a number of students attending Drake University, Des Moines Medical University, and other institutions of learning. Due to the very limited income of these members, resources are needed to keep an accessible Masjid in the area. It is therefore our duty to provide them a place to serve Allah and to provide the support of other Muslims. " ... Abraham said: My Lord! Make safe this territory, and preserve me and my sons from serving idols." (14:35)
Before receiving news of our need to relocate, the MCO has been able to conduct Jumaah, daily, and Taraweeh prayers. Social functions, such as Eid celebrations, Islamic weddings, and general community gatherings take place at the Masjid, but are often overcrowded. Weekend Islamic and Arabic classes are given with tremendous success, and we hope with your support we can provide the children with better supplies and better facilities for learning. Alhamdollilah, we recently purchased a church in the neighborhood, and have already done some renovation. Unfortunately, we still owe approximately $70,000, with the agreement of completely paying it off by July ’09. We are therefore pleading for your help and support in bringing this transaction to a close. "He who builds a Masjid for Allah, the Exalted, Allah would build for him a house in Paradise."
